The National Gallery of Victoria (the NGV) has once again excelled in its current major International art exhibition featuring the art of Andy Warhol / Ai Weiwei.
Andy Warhol’s work has inspired me (and still does) for as long as I can remember. I was so looking forward to get to the gallery and immerse myself in all things Andy Warhol.
Throughout this piece, you’ll find a small glimpse of what the exhibition has to offer.
I really didn’t know anything about Ai Weiwei and was looking forward to learning how the two artists would complement each other in a joint exhibition.
I adore the strong colours and faces from Andy Warhol. Its his almost simple designs showing everyday life and objects which has a way of transforming what we see every day.
As I learned, Ai Weiwei is an artist and an activist. Forever Bicycles 2015 (shown below) is a major new installation designed specifically for the NGV. It is made up of over 1500 bicycles symbolising the freedom to move.
Ai Weiwei was in Melbourne for the opening and readily showed his ‘up yours’ finger to photographers whenever he got the chance, taking photos on his phone which he posted on his Instagram.
For me, its really hard to find the right words to describe Ai Weiwei. Such a fascinating man who passes on his experience of the world through his art.
This incredibly inspiring exhibition finishes its Melbourne run on 25 April 2016 and if you’re in Melbourne, is a MUST to see.
